Most of the traditional drive system components, including fragile micro switches, have been replaced by an intelligent on-board “brain”. Complex electrical cabling has been eliminated, thanks to CAN-bus technology.

A closer look on the CAN-bus technology

Conventional drive systems are based on switch activated controls in the tiller arm. Drive systems message inputs are transferred to the controller via many electrical cables – that are prone to wear.

Toyota Powerdrive features switchless electronics in the tiller arm. Drive requests are communicated to the logic card via a magnetic sensor (no actual contact = no wear). This proven CAN-bus system ensures increased reliability of the drive system when in use.
